Who We Are

AfricAvenir Foundation

AfricAvenir is a non-governmental and non-profit organisation founded in Douala, Cameroon, by Prince Kum' a Ndumbe III in 1990. It's Head Office is located in Bonabéri, just at the outskirts of the centre of Douala, consisting of a Conference Room, a Library, a Publishing House and a Computer Center. The building opens workdays from 10.00 AM - 20.00 PM.

Promotion of African Languages

One of AfricAvenir's main preoccupations for the years to come will be to contribute to the re-integration of African languages and cultures in Cameroonian schools. AfricAvenir therefore cooperates with different national and international institutions such as the National Association of Cameroonian Languages (ANACLAC), the Federation of African Languages Academies (FALAA) and the Austrian Ministry of Education a.o. Since March 2004, AfricAvenir is also working with African tales in schools, adult education centres, in towns and villages and in the media.

Exchange & Dialogue

AfricAvenir has been promoting exchanges for many years and has given both Europeans and Africans the opportunity to live, work or travel abroad. We believe these exposures to foreign contexts and cultures not only to be personally enriching, they more than anything contribute to the forging of a Common Destiny Perspective and mutual empathy and respect.

Internship & Voluntary Service

Around 50 students have already been working for AfricAvenir in Douala either as intern or as volunteer. To apply for an internship or a voluntary year, please check application requirements.

Depending on topic and focus of their work, AfricAvenir also invites and takes care of researchers willing to make their field research in Cameroon.

Cheikh Anta Diop Library

The Cheikh Anta Diop library opened in 1993 and currently stocks about 5000 volumes on topics like African history, democratization, African Renaissance, globalization, environment, gender etc.

Annual & Monthly Program

Between October and July, AfricAvenir opens daily. During the rainy season in Douala (August and September) however, the organisation stays closed. This year's program is dedicated to plurilingual education and African tales.

 Support AfricAvenir

As a non-profit organisation, AfricAvenir also depends on donations and material support by devoted people or businesses. Be it personal or institutional, there are many possibilities of supporting our daily work.

Partners

AfricAvenir has partners all around the world and has, over the years, worked with many international organisations and institutions. Those listed here, however, are only the constant partners.

The Founder

Prince Kum'a Ndumbe III is a "cultural bridge-builder". Born in Douala, Cameroon, into a royal family, he was sent to Germany at the age of 15, where he made his "Abitur" before moving to France for his studies.
